ystems under 50kWp will be best suited for domestic dwellings and small businesses. At this level the feed-in tariff rates are at their best.
The rates from the 1st April 2012 are below:-
| Scale |
Tariff as at 1st April 2012 |
Duration of tariff |
| ≤4 kW (new build) | 21p/kWh | 25 years |
| ≤4 kW (retrofit) | 21p/kWh | 25 years |
| >4-10 kW | 16.8p/kWh | 25 years |
Depending on the wattage of the panels 10 kWp would be around the 40 panel mark. This would require somewhere in the region of 60sqm of roof space. This may also be installed on a ground array.
To find out more about ground arrays please see Ground Array Solar Panels
The good thing about fitting the panels to the roof is planning permission is not required unless permitted developments rights have been removed. You can find this out at your local planning office.
A 4kW system at todays prices will be around £9,300 and give a return on investment of 9% - 10%.
