Choosing a solar panel installer

Written on Tuesday, 28th June 2011 by GHE Solar

Now that you have made the decision to have solar panels installed it is important that you choose a solar panel installer that can seamlessly install your solar panels. There are a number of solar panel installers in each area of the UK so how can you decide which one is best for you? As a long term investment solar panels will be generating income for a minimum of 25 years so getting the right solar panel system is very important. With this in mind, below is a checklist of important questions to ask when deciding upon a solar panel installer.

How knowledgeable is the sales person and solar panel installer’s staff about the solar panel systems available? Do they offer a range of solar panel systems and can they inform you of the solar panels real world performance?

How much pressure to buy do they place on the potential customer? If the company is confident of the solar panel system and the installer service they can supply there should be no need to place large amounts of sales pressure on customers.

How experienced is the company? While most solar panel installers are quite new companies it is still important to check that they have completed a large number of solar panel systems. Most importantly can they supply references from satisfied customers?

Are they established and professional? This is important as you want the solar panel installer to be around to professionally deal with any after sales issues that arise.

Do they understand how a solar panel system integrates into the overall building? This is especially important if the solar panel system is to be installed on a new building or at the same time as improvements.

Are they MCS registered? This is fundamental as if a solar panel system installer isn’t MCS registered then the solar panel system isn’t eligible for the feed-in tariff.

Last but not least, are they competitive on price? At the end of the day the installation of a solar panel system is generally looked at as an investment. As with any investment a competitive price is the most important factor. The key is to look at all factors to make sure the price is the most competitive for the whole life of the solar panel installation.
